Kung-fu kiting

I lost my board in mid-air on this jump that looks more like a ninja drop-kick. The water is getting really crisp and the fall winds have been gusty so far. This might be my last dip of the season, given the ugly wind forecast.

Lake Huron's Wilma

The makings of a funnel cloud shown here near the Kincardine harbour. Not so great for kiteboarding but promises great vertical lift. Thanks Lee!

Guilty!

George, Jen & Jess
I wonder which of these three individuals is up to something mischievous?
Not everyone knows this... but the bigger the fire the greater the winds! That's why it's so windy around here these days, and there's no cardboard!

Fire it up!

It's incredible that we didn't get a visit from the fire department. Our little campfire grew pyre-sized thanks to George's cardboard contribution. We braved the blair witch house this eve, but it's still undecided who was most scared - I admit to hitting some high notes, but Jen definitely jumped the highest when she realized she was standing right next to the keeper of the crypt!

Getting a launch in Amberley

We cannot believe these conditions so far into the year. This is October and the temperature is still around 15 degrees. We can only hope that these temps hold on until the snow flies, marking the start of the snow kite season, can't wait!

What life's all about!

Jeff, Shaun and Ash enjoying a few beers at the end of the a great kite day in Amberly, thanks Stam!

Great Night on the Water

This was a almost direct on shore wind and Jesse and I were going to play with our foils, but the urge hit so we suited up. I didn't do much but as you can see Jess-man had a great wave ride. There are a few big rocks to watch out for but other than that an upwind rider can really enjoy these conditions.

Rippin' Days of September

This Canadian Flag is great for wind direction, unfortunately it couldn't withstand the fall winds. It has been taken down now, probably until spring.

Aerial Shots of Lake Huron Shoreline

These shots taken in June from a buddy's plane, thanks Rick! This first shot looks south towards Amberley. You can see that when the winds are offshore or South at home (foreground) they are side shore on the other side of Amberley.
Boiler Beach, nice spot don't really kite there much lately. Station Beach has more room this time of year (fall) and the piers break the surf when the winds are from the north, but it's a nice place to live.
Very little debris on the beach or in the water, just the odd big rock!!
Boiler Beach - again a great shoreline, clean and quiet.

The First Time

Hello, I guess we should introduce ourselves, then describe this photo of hopelessness. We are Shaun & Jeff, two kiteboarding enthusiasts that play in the fresh waters of the Great Lakes. Lake Huron's east shoreline is our playground with it's sandy beaches and inquisitive onlookers. See, there aren't too many folks around here like us, but those of us that do partake do so with smiles donning our faces and the knowledge that we are watching each other's back for trouble. There are around five or so guys now but that number has been growing lately.
We have Jess-man, Ash, Stammer, and ourselves, but we don't have any cool nicknames, yet. We have great beaches to travel to for almost every wind condition and are starting to know them better as time goes on. Kincardine's Station Beach for the NW to NE, Amberly for South winds and Ollie for the great butter days you need every once and a while. Look for more information for these kite sites to come, and if you have any input or other locals let us know!

Now to explain the photo. It was the day after my kite was delivered, Thanksgiving weekend 2003 and I thought I was doing well. :)
